GPFS Bass Flute & Alto Flute Rentals

Greater Portland Flute Society owns an Altus Bass Flute and a Trevor James Alto Flute that are available for rental by current GPFS Members.

RENTAL PERIOD:

BEFORE YOU PAY TO RENT THE GPFS BASS OR ALTO FLUTE:

  1. Make sure that your GPFS Membership is current.
  2. Make sure that the instrument is available for the dates that you need it by contacting the Bass & Alto Flute Committee Chair at bigflutes@gpfs.org
  3. Once you’ve confirmed the instrument’s availability, then pay the rental fee for the appropriate rental period.

Either flute may be rented for a 5-day period. You may renew it in person or by phone if no one else has reserved it. Three renewals are possible (total of 15 days from initial date) without taking the flute back. There will be a $5.00 late fee if you fail to return the flute at the agreed upon time.

DEPOSIT:
A $100.00 deposit is required at the time the flute is rented. The deposit will be returned in full upon the return of the flute if the flute has not been damaged.

LATE FEE:
There will be a $5.00 late fee if you fail to return the flute at the agreed upon time.

Priorities of Use:

Priority of use of the bass flute and alto flute will be in the following order:
  1. GPFS Flute Ensembles
  2. GPFS Member-Individual or Group
  3. High School or College
  4. Professional Group

Who May Rent the Alto Flute and Bass Flute:

Any member of GPFS may rent the flutes. If the renter is under age 18, a parent or guardian must sign the rental agreement and take responsibility for the flute. GPFS Teachers/Choir Directors may rent the flute for their students/choir members. The students/choir members who will be playing the flute must be current GPFS Members and their names must be registered with GPFS. Students/Choir Members are not allowed to take the Alto Flute or Bass Flute home without checking it out through GPFS. The person checking out the flute is ultimately responsible for returning the flute in the condition it was received.

RENTER RESPONSIBILITIES

The renter is responsible for all damage to the flute or the case. “Damage” is everything beyond normal wear and tear, such as dents, bent keys, bent tenons or rods, pads torn by careless cleaning, major leaks, and major scratches. Any damages to the flute will be repaired by GPFS and the charges will be deducted from your deposit.
